We whose names are hereunto Subscribed do hereby certify that we very well know the within named John Smith and beleive him to be a very honest Industrious man and that we have also Examined the account and Estimate within written and beleive the same to be a true and moderate account and Estimate of the damage The said John Smith hath sustained and that we have reason to beleive that the said John Smith is very unable to bear such loss being thereby deprived in parts of the usual means of getting his livelihood and of supporting and maintaining himself and family having a Wife and several children and that it would be a real Charity done to give him releif on account thereof As Witness our Hands this Eighth day of January 1772 John Ridley George Ridley I The Revd. John Farrow Curate of Haltwhistle Parish within mentioned do hereby Certify that I very well know the within mentioned John Smith and also the several Persons whose names are subscribed to the above written Certi ficate I beleive him and them to be very honest men, that I had not an opportunity of seeing the damage done to him by the said flood but beleive that the within written account and Estimate is a true and moderate one As Witness my Hand this 8th day of January 1772 John Farrer I Thomas Rotherham, Vicar of Haltwhistle parish above mentioned do hereby certify that I have perused the within written Estimate & the two Certificates above written & beleive the same to be true but do not of my own knowledge know the facts or the persons as well as my Curate being from the Parish when the floods happened and not having resided much within
