John Donkin as Agent for and on the Behalf of Mr Errington proposed and undertook to
make a Substantial Road from the North End of the said Bridge when built to the

The penalty of the Bond Alemouth Road for the sum of £400 – and that Mr Errington would enter into the
was estimated thus £ Penalty of 9,100£ to the County conditioned for building making finishing & compleating
For the Bridge 5700 the said Bridge & Road on or before the 25th day of March 1780 & for the supporting
Road 400 [upholding?] or rebuilding the said Bridge & repairing and keeping in repair
County Materials 3000 the same for the term of 7 years from the time of compleating the same resply and
£9100 which said proposals were at the said Sessions approved and agreed to by the
Justices then present on Behalf of the County It was witnessed that in Consn of
the said proposals of Agreements & for the Consn aftermentioned the said Mr Errington
did for himself his Heirs &etc Covenant with the said Justices party thereto their
[?Exectors?] &etc that he would at his own proper Costs & charges on or before the [?] 25th
March 1780 Well sufficiently & effectually Build a good & substantial Stone Bridge
across the River Tyne according to the plan thereunto annexed opposite to Hexham at a
Place examined and approved by the said Mr Smeaton And should procure and make
the said Road And also that said Mr Errington his Heirs &etc should & would at his
and their own proper Costs and Charges and from time to time and at all times as often as
need or occasion should be or require during the Term of 7 Years uphold support
repair maintain rebuild & keep in good and sufficient repair the said Bridge & Road
for the said 7 years to be computed from the time that the said Bridge and Road should
have been certified for to the General Quarter Sessions under the hands of two of his
Majesty’s Justices of the Peace to have been built made finished & Compleated-
And in Consn of the said Mr Erringtons Covenants & Agreements the Justices party
thereto on Behalf of the County Did Covenant; that the Treasurer of the said County
Should pay Mr Errington the said £5,700 for the Building finishing & upholding
the said Bridge & the Sum of £400 for procuring making and upholding the said
Road in the manner therein mentioned-And that Mr Errington should have take
and use as he should think fit All the Timber Stone Iron & other Materials which
